The software market is estimated to be worth $400 billion in the USA alone and demand is still growing for new programs and applications. Corresponding with this rise is an increase in demand for qualified software testers. While most IT and programming qualifications will give IT practitioners the basics of software testing, it is only through specific software testing certification that practitioners can represent these particular skills.
The International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB) is a global body that has built the most renowned certification scheme for professional software testers. The ISTQB Foundation Certificate is recognised internationally and is considered the industry standard professional qualification in software testing.
The ISTQB Foundation Certificate is designed for IT practitioners with some software testing skills who would like to validate their knowledge and experience.
The course is designed to cover the essential skills and knowledge needed to work as a testing professional and become a qualified software tester.
Practitioners will complete the course with the following outcomes:
- Learn fundamental testing principles, including details of the testing process
- Understand testing throughout the project development lifecycle
- Apply a variety of test techniques for more effective test preparation
- Understand management of the testing process
- Identify tools that support testing
The ISTQB Foundation has been endorsed by the Project Management Institute (PMI) and is worth 22 Professional Development Units (PDUs) towards Project Management Professional (PMP) and Program Management Professional (PgMP) certification.
Upon successful attainment of the ISTQB Foundation Certificate, practitioners can apply for a role as a software tester or use the certification to complement their role as a quality assurance manager or IT project manager.
There are no entry requirements for the ISTQB Foundation Certificate but an understanding of or some experience in a software testing environment is recommended.
Course duration depends on study mode.
Those undertaking the ISTQB Foundation Certificate course via classroom delivery will complete within 3 days. The examination is a closed book multiple choice exam. Examinations are independent of any software package and are independently administered and assessed.
Online participants can study at their own pace and are expected to take 24 hours in total to complete the course.
