The information and communications technology (ICT) sector spans a diverse range of businesses in areas from computer hardware and software, networking and communications to the internet, telecommunications, multimedia and more.
A career in the ICT industry will involve working with organisations to develop and improve technology solutions which address their business and information needs. Much of the work in ICT requires people who can design and deliver IT solutions which improve business efficiency and productivity.
The Diploma of Information Technology Systems Administration (ICA50311) is ideal for students who work in IT but do not have formal qualifications in IT or for high school graduates who do not have any experience in IT.
Students will develop proficiency in the use of computers and computational techniques to develop effective information systems that solve real world problems. In this course students learn to build and configure a server in line with enterprise requirements as well as developing skills and knowledge in network administration and systems security.
Upon completion of this qualification, graduates can apply for roles such as computer technician, help desk officer, IT technician and data administrator.
With experience, graduates can progress to roles such as:
- Systems Administrator
- IT Manager
- Intranet Administrator
- Website/database designer
- Software developer
- Network/information security engineer
- Security technical specialist
For entry requirements into the Diploma of Information Technology Systems Administration you need to:
- Meet any specified course entry requirements; AND
- Provide a copy of your Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (i.e. a Year 12 qualification); OR
- Achieve and Exit level 3 score with the Australian Core Skills Frame work assessments in reading and maths, which will show that you have the capability to be successful in the course. This is done through two short tests as part of your enrolment process.

Online students will have the benefit of self-paced part-time study with students to complete the course within 70 weeks.
Students wishing to study via classroom delivery must study full-time and will complete this qualification in 35 weeks.
