The Diploma of Beauty Therapy Course (SHB50115) is the preferred qualification to operate as a beauty therapist. Likewise, this is a good choice for anyone wishing to add beauty services therapist training to their chosen profession. Recently overseas trained beauty therapists wishing to ensure their training is comparable to that which is required in Australia are also recommended to study the Diploma in Beauty Therapy.
The Diploma of Beauty Therapy course is focused on facial massage, body massage, hair removal, spa treatments, lash and brow treatments, nail technology services, make-up, aromatherapy, providing advice on beauty treatments and services, selling retail skin care and cosmetic products and coordinating teams.
Students will also learn how to plan and select appropriate equipment, services and techniques, and work autonomously in performing complex technical operations as well as group or team participation and coordination.
Graduates from this Beauty Therapy course will be competent in a broad range of beauty therapy treatments, which will enable them to work as a beauty therapist in salons, spas, a home-based business and the wider beauty industry.
Beauty therapists may also choose to specialise into roles such as:
- Nail artist
- Make-up artist
- Beauty consultant
- Cosmetic salesperson
For entry into the Diploma courses, you will need to:
- meet any specified course entry requirements; AND
- provide a copy of your Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (i.e. a Year 12 qualification); OR
- achieve an Exit Level 3 score within the Australian Core Skills Framework assessments in reading and maths, which will show that you have the capability to be successful in the course. This is done through two short tests as a part of your enrolment process.

Course duration is dependent on study mode.
On campus students can study full-time to complete in 60 weeks or part-time to complete in 90 weeks under a structured program. Online students can study full time in 96 weeks or part time 144 weeks.
In addition to study hours, online students who are unable to attend the clinic will have to complete mandatory vocational placement of 450 hours.
