Due to recent changes to bookkeeping and tax agent requirements the Certificate IV in Bookkeeping is the minimum formal education requirement for a person wishing to be a registered BAS Agent under the new legislation. It includes modules relating to GST/BAS principles that are currently mandatory requirements of the Tax Practitioners Board.
Persons providing a BAS service must be registered by the Board. Other conditions apply including a designated period of experience. Persons seeking BAS agent registration should check current registration requirements with the Board as this is regularly reviewed.
The Certificate IV in Bookkeeping is designed to reflect the job roles of contract bookkeepers and employees performing bookkeeping tasks for organisations in a range of industries. It is ideal for:
- New bookkeepers who intend to start their own business.
- Contract or permanent bookkeepers who wish to become registered BAS agents.
- Small business owners who would like their staff to complete bookkeeping tasks.
This course will cover skills in developing and implementing policies and practices relevant to bookkeeping activities such as classifying, recording and reporting of accounting information, maintaining inventory records and making decisions in a legal context. It also focuses on procedural requirements for bookkeepers when establishing accounting and payroll systems.
On completion of this course, you may be employed as a bookkeeper, or work as a contract bookkeeper.
