Course overview

Shiatsu is a traditional hands-on therapy originating in Japan. Literally meaning ‘finger pressure’, shiatsu involves applying pressure to special points or areas of the body to stimulate energy flow, relieve pain and muscular tension, treat specific conditions and promote overall health and wellbeing.

This course aims to introduce the learner to the fundamental principles and terminology used in the Japanese point therapy of Shiatsu. On completion of the module students will gain the necessary knowledge and skills to perform basic Shiatsu Therapy. This qualification provides the skills required for competence in shiatsu therapy links these skills to the wider oriental therapies framework. It also covers the provision of shiatsu treatment to clients with specific needs such as women and children.

    Course structure

    This course requires the completion of all subjects listed below, plus one elective. In addition, students must complete or hold a current Senior First Aid certificate at the time of graduation or course completion.
