Course overview

Aromatherapy is often referred to as  'treatment using scents'. It involves caring for the body with pleasant smelling botanical oils such as rose, lemon, lavender and peppermint. 

Aromatherapy is used for the relief of pain, care for the skin, alleviate tension and fatigue and invigorate the entire body. Essential oils can affect the mood, alleviate fatigue, reduce anxiety and promote relaxation, they work on the brain and nervous system through stimulation of the olfactory nerves.

This qualification provides competence in Aromatherapy practice and practitioners at this level may be self employed as independent practitioners or may work within a larger health service.
It covers the provision of Aromatherapy treatment to clients with specific needs such as palliative care, aged care, women and children. Practitioners at this level may supervise other Aromatherapists and may formulate for individual outcomes. Aromatherapists at this level are expected to have an in depth understanding of a medium range (minimum of 40) of essential oils.

  • Pre-requisites

    Certificate IV in Aromatherapy or equivalent.

    This course has assumed knowledge and skills that are in line with a Certificate IV.  Students who do not have these competencies will take these subject.

    Course structure

    This course requires the completion of all subjects listed below, plus two electives. In addition, students must complete or hold a current Senior First Aid certificate at the time of graduation or course completion.
