This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to implement and monitor the organisation's occupational health and safety (OHS) policies, procedures and programs in the relevant work area to meet legislative requirements. No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of endorsement.

Introduction to OHS

Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) refers to the legislation, policies, procedures and activities that aim to protect the health, safety and welfare of all people at the workplace. OHS recognises that employers across all industries have a responsibility to provide a safe system of work for both employees and contractors.
This course will introduce the policies and procedures designed to help protect you from incidents and injury in the workplace. You will also receive ongoing refresher training to reinforce your knowledge and renew your understanding over time. This course includes 50 minutes of learning covering the following topics:

    Risk Assessment to Accident Investigation

    Risk assessment and control is about our collective legal and moral obligation to create a safer workplace for everyone. It helps you and your colleagues to stay safe and at the same time helps to ensure that our procedures are aligned to the requirements of the law. And it's not just employees that must be protected; we also have a duty to any people who enter our workplace including contractors, clients, visitors, customers, passers-by and even trespassers.     Hazards, Controls and Safety Practices

    Even if your daily work is in a white collar environment, there may well be times that you need to visit an industrial facility. It could be another part of your own organisation or perhaps that of a supplier or client. Either way, it is vital that you recognise and react appropriately to common hazards. In this course, we will learn some general basics of Health and Safety in an Industrial environment. These are generic concepts so please be sure to follow the local rules and regulations at any site at all times if they conflict with any information offered in this course.     Slips Trips and Falls

    Too many people reflect on STFs as being just embarrassing, but the reality is that any employee, contractor or visitor can have a STF. Statistically, more females have a slip or trip, more males tend to fall, and as people get older they have a greater risk of a STF.
    This course is produced to bring awareness about slips, trips and falls in the workplace and how it can impact your life. It does not cover working at heights above 2m. This course includes 10 minutes of learning covering the following topics:

    Manual tasks require lifting, pushing, pulling or carrying and it includes any activity requiring the use of force to lift, lower, push, pull, carry, move, hold or restrain an object.     Contractor Safety Management

    In this course, you will learn about our Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Policy and obligations relating to contractors in the workplace. The purpose of this course is to inform you about the organisations responsibilities to contractors. You will learn how to work with contractors to ensure health and safety in your workplace. This will include practical applications to contractor work, hazardous works, the use of hazardous substances in the workplace and the systems in place to manage contractor safety. This course includes 50 minutes of learning covering the following topics:
