Avid Essentials

About this course

Learn how to cut with the Academy Award winning Avid system. Avid Xpress Pro uses the same legendary editing interface the entire Avid line is based upon – so you can cut in the same way as 90% of what you see in the cinema and on television. While it’s facing competition against the increasingly popular Final Cut Pro, Avid remains the industry standard thanks to its rock-solid media management, ability to mix both SD and HD formats, integrated colour correction, and so far unbeatable cutting interface.

What you will learn

This course will provide you with sufficient knowledge to work competently and effectively with Avid Xpress Pro. We’ll start off with an overview of the interface before walking through the basic editing workflow. You’ll then learn about Avid’s transitions and effects, and how to manipulate them to your purposes. We’ll also take you through editing audio within Avid, and how to use its various monitoring and mixing tools. You’ll gain an understanding of how to use both Avid’s internal title tools as well as externally created titles. The course will be rounded out with an explanation of how to get your completed edit out of Avid and in to the real world.

Assumed knowledge

You should have a basic understanding of video editing, as well as a reasonable level of confidence with the Windows or Mac OS interface. Some exposure to non-linear digital editing software is recommended
