Course overview
This course is for people wanting to enter or currently employed in the civil construction industry. It reflects the role of people working as managers who perform tasks that are broad, specialised, complex and technical and includes strategic areas and initiating activities. You will learn to be responsible for the establishment of site management systems, plans and policies. By completing the course you will be able to provide leadership, establish and maintain OHS management systems, environmental management systems, quality systems and risk management systems. You will be assessed in a work environment or a simulated environment as specified in the Resources and Infrastructure Training Package. You will be advised of the requirements relating to accessing a workplace(s) and relevant OHS safety requirements at enrolment.
Course Structure
The course structure below shows what you must do to complete this course. units/modules are arranged in groups and sometimes also in subgroups. You must complete each group as specified as well as following the course completion instructions. If a course contains optional groups there will statement at the top of the course indicating how many you must do. At the top of any group containing optional subgroups there will be a statement saying how many you must do. This course has been designed to reflect the packaging requirements for RII60609 Advanced Diploma of Civil Construction within the Resources and Infrastructure Training Package (RII09). The rules from the RII09 Training follows: Successful completion of twelve (12) units of competency made up of: * six (6) mandatory units * six (6) elective units to be completed made up of: - a minimum of three (3) units from the electives list - a maximum of two (2) units, from this or any other Training Packages at any level Units chosen must be relevant to the job function. Care must be taken to ensure that all prerequisites specified within imported units, or units chosen as electives, are complied with. To satisfy the Training Package requirements, this TAFE NSW course has been structured as follows: A total of 12 units must be completed - 5 compulsory units and 7 elective units Group 1 - Compulsory Units -------------------------- All 5 units must be completed. Group 2 - Compulsory Elective Units ----------------------------------- At least 1 unit must be completed. The remaining unit may be chosen as an elective. Group 3 - Elective Units listed in the Training Package ------------------------------------------------------- At least 5 and no more than 6 units must be completed.Course Elective Completion:

Requirements to receive the qualification
To achieve RII60609 Advanced Diploma of Civil Construction (TAFE NSW course number 19080), learners are required to complete 12 units of competency (5 compulsory and 7 electives) comprising: - all 5 compulsory units from group 1 - at least 1 compulsory elective unit from group 2 - at least 5 and no more than 6 elective units from group 3. NSW Higher School Certificate or equivalent Before commencing workshop activities or on-site training and assessment in this course, learners must have completed WorkCover approved OHS General Induction Training (available from TAFE or other RTOs).
